Our step plan and lateral transfer policy offers newly hired officers a salary range of $50,218 - $67,943, depending on certification and experience.
First-time officers and lateral transfers receive a $3,000 hiring incentive. In addition, our officers can take advantage of the in-county residency stipend, as well as a take-home car, tuition assistance, and a comprehensive benefits package.

ACCPD Information
To Protect and Serve as Guardians of Athens-Clarke County
ACCPD's annual budget exceeds $22 million and the department is authorized for more than 350 full and part-time employees comprised of 256 Sworn Officers, 64 Civilian Positions, and 33 School Crossing Guards.
These employees adhere to state and national standards and best practices as indicated by our CALEA accreditation. We also are certified by the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police.
Our mission to Athens-Clarke County is to support and defend the U.S. Constitution, protect and safeguard all life, and ensure equal protection of rights for all as we work to reduce both crime and the fear of crime.

Why Athens?

Located in northeast Georgia about 50 miles from Atlanta, Athens-Clarke County (ACC) has a population of approximately 130,000. Well known as a college town and home to the University of Georgia, Athens has a vibrant downtown with eclectic shops, music venues, and a variety of restaurants. On Saturdays in the fall, thousands arrive to enjoy tailgating and cheering for the Georgia Bulldogs. Additionally, ACC is the cultural hub of northeast Georgia with many museums, theaters, and lively festivals. There is something for everyone in Athens-Clarke County.

ACCPD Cadet Program
a bridge to the community and, most notably, the youth

The ACCPD Cadet Program provides civilian staff and prospective officers for the agency. Even more important, college students can serve as prime role models for grade schoolers who can easily see themselves attaining their level of success.


Cadets perform routine non-sworn duties under direct supervision. Tasks are completed on a rotational basis throughout bureaus of the Police Department in preparation for a law enforcement career.
Cadets will be mentored by Police Officer Mentors while advising Athens-Clarke County Police Explorers. Additionally, Cadets will accumulate hands-on training and experiences in the classroom and field.
